A completed abstract artwork from the 'Wake Up' series by Chalice Meikle. This series is inspired by the artist's meditative experience outdoors. Chalice used various techniques and materials including flashe, acrylic paint, paint marker, brushes, nail polish, spatula, stencils, and spray paint. The artwork features layered hues and squiggles of traffic cone orange, lilac, sky blue, purple, grass green, and fire engine red with purple paint marker on top.

FIGURE DRAWING

I currently host Free Figure Drawing at Free Range Brewery in NoDa. Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Each category is listed from beginner to pro.

A zoomed-in photograph of a black and white pencil drawing with three pencils resting on top. Only the tips of the pencils are shown, all pointing towards the center of the drawing.

Pencils

An artist’s paint-covered hands makes marks on paper with pencils and paint. There are various art instruments laying about including jars of yellow, mint green, and rust orange. There is a planet with a ring drawn and painted on the paper along with other random abstract sketches.

PAINTING

Items I use on the regular. As a fine artist, I often make my own panels and stretch my own canvas. Some links go to products as a DIY method.

A close-up of an artist's hands squeezing thick cobalt blue paint from a metal tube onto an old worn brush. The hands are stained with paint, adorned with chunky silver rings. In the background, an abstract painting in black, pink, purple, and white is blurred, adding a colorful backdrop.

Paint

A large grouping of wooden panels, approximately 8x8 inches and 2 inches deep, already prepped with white gesso and ready to be painted on.

Panel

A dynamic shot captures the artist's right hand in motion, wielding a large, chunky house paintbrush. Streaks of thin aqua blue paint are flung across the canvas and into the air, adding to the work in progress. Swatches of blue and black paint, along with straight black sketched lines, already adorn the mixed media canvas, showcasing the evolving artwork's layers and textures.

Brushes

A piece of white paper with the top falling towards the viewer over the rest of the paper, creating a shadow.

Paper

The hands of an artist building a frame for a stretched canvas. They are using one hand to hold the frame in place and one hand to pull the canvas taut.

Canvas

A random collection of miscellaneous objects including a gold shopping cart and a partially dismembered male mannequin wearing shorts.
