'Perspective' is a group exhibition featuring Chalice Meikle, Carey James, and Kate Bankston at The Long Room in the heart of Plaza Charlotte, NC. Each artist brings their perspective on creativity and genre. The exhibition centers around a series of feet drawings titled 'Feedback' created by Ms. Meikle. Carey James then photographs the pieces, and Kate Bankston creates music from the work. These artists, working together within their genres, create a work of art in and of itself.
PERSPECTIVE
The Artists
Photographer
Carey J. King is a self-taught visual storyteller based in Charlotte, NC. After the death of his grandfather, Carey's perspective on life changed. Small moments and details that he'd previously overlooked were now ever-present in his day-to-day life. Eager to share his newfound perspective, he picked up a camera and never looked back.
Musician / Song Writter
Kate Bankston is a classically trained Charlotte based singer songwriter who also runs her own teaching studio for piano and voice. Her work leans strongly towards jazz and R&B with some pop and folk overtones. Lake Street Dive, Lawrence, and Carole King are some of her current influences. When listening to her work, you’ll find yourself caught up in ear pulling trumpet lines and rhythms that make you tap your toes like you’re at a Hall and Oats concert. Kate’s songs are classics in the making infused with soul and lyrics that drive deeper into themes of hurt, healing, and humor.
Multidisciplinary Artist
Chalice Meikle (Florida, b.1990) received her BFA in Painting in the winter of 2015 from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. Ms. Meikle moved to Charlotte, NC, in 2015 and orchestrated Unorthodox Studios from June 2017 to March 2020. From 2022 to 2023, she worked and volunteered with several non-profits, including The Arts and Empowerment Project, Arts Plus, McColl Center, The VAPA Center, and The Light Factory. Her work stems from meditation, movement, and ideas that wake her up in the middle of the night.
